Privacy policy
The short version: what you keep in Lifenest stays on your phone, locked so only you can open it. Lifenest has no servers. We never see, receive or keep your details. There are no ads and no tracking.
1. What Lifenest keeps, and where
On your phone
Everything you add (items such as IDs, cards, policies, bills, passwords and notes, the people you add, photos and files, reminders and settings) is stored only on your phone. It is encrypted, which means it is locked so only you can open it, with your master password. Phone unlock (fingerprint) and an App PIN, if you turn them on, only open it on that phone.
In your own Google Drive (only if you turn on backup)
If you choose to back up, Lifenest saves an encrypted copy of your data in a hidden app folder in your own Google Drive. It is locked on your phone before it is uploaded, so Google cannot read it, and neither can we. Only your master password or your recovery key opens it.
With Lifenest (the developer)
Nothing. Lifenest has no servers, no accounts and no database of users. We do not collect, receive, store, sell or share your personal data.
2. Google sign-in and Google Drive
Signing in with Google is optional and is used only for backup and restore. Lifenest asks for:
- drive.appdata: access to a private app folder in your Google Drive that only Lifenest can use. Lifenest cannot see, open or change any of your other Drive files.
- Your Google account email address: shown in the app so you can see which account your backup goes to.
This information goes directly between your phone and Google. It never passes through us. You can disconnect at any time in Settings › Backup & restore, or remove Lifenest’s access from your Google Account settings.
In line with Limited Use: data from Google APIs is used only to provide backup and restore to you; it is not transferred to anyone else, not used for advertising, and not read by people, except with your clear permission, for security, or to comply with the law.
3. Scanning and reading text (Google ML Kit)
Lifenest uses Google’s ML Kit document scanner and text recognition to scan pages and read text from them. These tools work on your phone: your images, documents and the text read from them are not sent to Google. Google states that ML Kit may contact Google to get updates and may send Google anonymous technical statistics about how the tools perform (such as device model, app version, timing and error codes). This does not include your documents or what they say. See Google’s ML Kit privacy terms.
4. Plans and purchases (Google Play)
Lifenest Lifetime (pay once) and Lifenest Premium Annual (renews every year) are bought through Google Play. Google handles the payment. Lifenest never sees your card, UPI or bank details. Google Play tells the app which plan you have, and the app checks that with Google Play on your phone. You can cancel Premium Annual at any time in Google Play.
To keep your plan right, Lifenest keeps a few small facts, never anything you saved:
- In your locked data on your phone: the day your Lifenest Premium Welcome started, how many new pages you used this month, and the plan Google Play confirmed. These come back with your backup.
- In a small file on your phone: the day your Premium Welcome started, so starting again doesn’t restart it.
- In Google Block Store (part of Google Play services, tied to your Google account): the same start day and the latest time the app saw, so it also comes back after a reinstall or on a new phone with the same Google account.
5. Weather on Home (only if you turn it on)
Weather is off until you turn it on. When it is on, Lifenest asks Android for your approximate location only, never your exact location. Before anything leaves your phone, the position is rounded to about 1 km. Only that rounded position is sent to Open-Meteo, a free weather service, to get the current weather. Nothing from your vault is ever sent, and your location is not stored. Turn it off at any time in Settings › Appearance › Weather on Home, and no more requests are made.
6. Permissions
- Notifications and alarms: to remind you of dates. Reminders are made on your phone and never show card numbers or passwords.
- Fingerprint: to unlock Lifenest if you turn it on. Your fingerprint stays with your phone; Lifenest never receives it.
- Internet: only for Google Drive backup and restore, Google Play purchases, ML Kit as described above, and the weather if you turn it on.
- Approximate location: only if you turn on Weather on Home. Lifenest never asks for your exact location.
- Camera, photos and files: only when you choose to scan or add something. Lifenest only opens the files you pick.
7. No ads, no analytics, no tracking
Lifenest contains no advertising and no analytics or crash-reporting services. Lifenest keeps a short Diagnostics log on your phone to help fix problems; it never leaves your phone unless you choose to share it.
8. Exports and sharing
You can export your data as a .lifenest file locked with a password, or as a PDF. A PDF is not locked: anyone you send it to can read it. Where you send a file is up to you.
9. Deleting your data
Settings › Privacy & Data › Delete all data removes everything from your phone, and can also delete your Lifenest backups from your Google Drive. Uninstalling the app also removes the data on your phone. You can also delete backups yourself in Google Drive (Settings › Manage apps). Because we keep no copy, deleted data cannot be recovered by us.
10. Security
Your data is locked with strong, modern encryption and a key made from your master password. If you forget your master password, only your recovery key can help. We cannot reset it, because we never have it.
11. Children
Lifenest is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. A parent may keep family details, such as a child’s documents, in their own Lifenest; that data stays on the parent’s phone.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date, and mention important changes in the app.
